Botulinumtoxin (Botox®) against hair loss

clinic utoquai Botox against hair loss

Hair loss is not always hereditary or a symptom of disease. The so-called tension hair loss is also a common phenomenon.

The cause of tension hair loss is usually tension of the muscles in the scalp. With regular tension, the hair roots receive only a limited supply of blood and oxygen – the hair falls out as a result. Concentration or stress-induced hair loss occurs in both men and women and particularly affects the tonsure area, the crown of the head and the temples (receding hairline).

How can Botox® help against hair loss?

Botulinum toxin, better known as Botox®, is a popular active ingredient in the treatment of expression lines. Its muscle-relaxing effect also makes Botulinum interesting for other medical and aesthetic applications. At clinic utoquai, we also successfully use botulinum toxin against hair loss as a so-called AC therapy.

Procedure

Before we can start treatment, the first step is to make a concrete diagnosis of the type of hair loss by the dermatologist in charge. This is done in a personal consultation with a short examination of the treatment area using an EMG device. If tension-related hair loss has been diagnosed, the botulinum toxin is injected into the areas of the scalp affected by tension. Here, the active ingredient creates an interruption of the nerve impulses so that the muscles gradually relax. The hair follicles are thus optimally supplied again, further hair loss is stopped and normal hair growth resumes. The effectiveness lasts for about six months, so for lasting results, a six-month booster is recommended.

After-effects

Although Botox® is a toxin, it is not harmful to the body in the quantities used for treatment and is broken down by the body without leaving any residue. Temporary redness, bruising or slight swelling may occur at the injection sites. We prevent infections, headaches or nausea by adhering to the strictest hygiene regulations and using the correct dosage.

Aftercare

The outpatient procedure is very painless and can be performed without anesthesia or local anesthesia. Only the puncture of the injection is felt briefly. A subsequent rest period is therefore also not necessary, and the ability to socialize is also restored immediately after the application. However, sports activities and hair washing should not be performed on the day of treatment.

Costs

Depending on the extent of hair loss and the patient’s wishes, the cost of the treatment varies. However, we will present you with a concrete cost breakdown in the preceding consultation. It is not covered by most health insurance companies, as it is an aesthetic procedure.
