What is a hair transplant using the sapphire technique?

Sapphire hair transplantation is an advanced form of Follicular Unit Extraction, generally known as the FUE method. In FUE hair transplantation, individual grafts (hair follicles) are extracted from the scalp and implanted in the desired donor area after special preparation. The transplant is performed using the sapphire technique: Fine, V-shaped sapphire blades are used to open the hair canals through tiny incisions and allow the grafts to be inserted precisely. The treatment is suitable for patients with hereditary hair loss who suffer from bald patches on the head or receding hairlines.

Advantages of sapphire hair transplantation

Sapphire hair transplantation is distinguished by its precision and gentle technique. The treatment also offers the following advantages:

  • Low invasiveness: the fine incisions made by sapphire blades make the procedure less invasive than conventional methods.
  • Faster healing time: the small incisions favour speedy recovery, allowing patients to return to their daily activities sooner.
  • Inconspicuous scarring: the tiny incisions and the characteristic nature of sapphire leave barely visible scars behind and thus ensure an aesthetically pleasing end result.
  • Natural look: precise placement of the hair follicles results in a natural, harmonious appearance.
  • Minimised trauma: the properties of sapphire reduce the risk of damage to the surrounding hair follicles.

Procedure for FUE hair transplantation with the sapphire method

The first step in our treatments is always a detailed consultation. The goal is to determine the causes in order to select the best treatment option for you. Of course, we also consider your individual wishes and needs. In the next step, we inform you in detail about the procedure and any risks of the treatment. We also use this opportunity to answer all your questions. When we devise your treatment plan, we will also provide you with detailed information about the expected costs.

Preparation for the hair transplant

It is advisable not to take any blood-thinning medication for 2 weeks before the hair transplantation. We also recommend that you stop smoking beforehand. Refrain from using hair styling products on the day of your treatment.

The treatment process

Sapphire hair transplants are performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthetic. Depending on the number of grafts to be transplanted, the treatment can take up to eight hours. It is performed in several stages:

Harvesting the grafts

The grafts are harvested using the FUE method. The hair follicles are usually harvested from the back of the head. We shave the donor hair to a length of 1.5 mm and then remove the grafts from the hair fringe. Next, they are extracted from the scalp using a fine hollow needle.

Preparation

The harvested grafts are carefully examined under a microscope to ensure that they are intact. They must be specially prepared for transplantation. Then they are placed in a special nutrient solution.

Hair transplantation with the sapphire technique and check-up

The sapphire technique is used for the next step. The hair canals are first opened with a fine sapphire blade. Besides being highly precise, these V-shaped micro-channels enable a density of around 120 grafts per square centimetre. We pay attention to the natural direction of hair growth during graft insertion. The treatment is gentle on the tissue, which can significantly reduce the healing time. In the end, we check the treatment area to ensure proper transplantation of all hair follicles.

After the hair transplant

In a final consultation, we will inform you about the correct aftercare. You can then leave our clinic. We will see you again at regular intervals for check-ups to keep an eye on the success of the treatment.

There are no long recovery times at home. You can wash your hair again just four days after the treatment. We advise you to avoid strenuous activities and exercising for the next three weeks. Protect your scalp, especially in summer, by wearing sun protection.

The implanted hair will fall out between the 4th and 12th week. The first new hair will grow back after about six weeks. It can take up to twelve months until the final and permanent result is achieved.
