Liposuction

Preface

With liposuction excess fat is removed and the body contour and proportions are improved.

Liposuction techniques permit minimally invasive remodeling and removal of fat deposits in the following locations: thighs, hips, buttocks, abdomen, flanks, upper arms, back, knee, breast, cheek, chin and neck, calves and ankles. It is important to realize that liposuction is not a treatment of obesity and is not intended to replace a balanced nutrition and regular physical activity. However, liposuction in combination with a healthy life style can improve your body contour and result in an aesthetic and harmonic shape of your body.

Liposuction is indicated for problem zones that persist in spite of a stable body weight and regular work outs. Also, it is possible to decrease the overall body fat content and consequently the body mass index (BMI) after improving your body contour with liposuction with a medically monitored and individualized fat- respectively body weight reduction program.

Lipoplasty, high-definition body sculpturing

Lipoplasty or high-definition body sculpturing are the terms used for the optimization of the body contour by redistribution of the subcutaneous fat. Based on refinements and technical developments of liposuction techniques combined with grafting of the harvested fat, lipoplasty leads to enhanced body contour and curves. In women the harvested fat is mainly used for augmentation of the breast and the buttocks, in men to enhance the pectoralis major muscle. With high-definition lipoplasty, the contours of the extremities, the abdomen, back and flanks can be sculptured and optimized according to gender differences. In women, the body contour becomes more attractive, female, youthful and/or athletic and in men the muscle contours are enhanced, and an athletic body type can be obtained. In ideal cases, a six-pack aspect of the abdominal muscles can be chiseled.

The procedure, postoperative care and potential complications as well as costs of the procedure are similar to liposuction and fat grafting and depend on the extent of surgery.

Procedure

Liposuction can generally be performed as an outpatient treatment under local (tumescent-) anesthesia or under general anesthesia. After injection of the tumescent solution (basically a saline solution with local anesthetics and adrenaline), fat is removed through multiple small incisions with cannulas in the different areas previously defined. It is a dynamic procedure, i.e. the surgeon can control the effect of gravity, position and muscle activity during the procedure. The technique leads to long lasting natural results.

Recovery

Hematomas and numbness disappear after a few days to weeks after the procedure. The small incisions heal uneventfully and leave only hardly visible scars behind. With this minimally invasive procedure, complications are rare. Since the procedure is often performed by poorly trained physicians, the risk of infection and creation of surface irregularities (waves and dimples) is real. For this reason, specially trained plastic surgeons perform this intervention for you at Utoquai Clinic.

Every patient is individual, and every treatment plan is adapted to its individual expectations and possibilities. Usually general  recovery after liposuction is straight forward, however the body may require up to 6 months to completely regenerate (depending on multiple factors such as age, skin quality, size, areas and extent of the fat to be removed) and for the final result to be obtained .

Postoperative care

To support the healing process and obtain a maximal skin retraction after removal of the extra fat, a compression garment should be worn, at least for 2-4 weeks after the procedure. Showering is possible after the first day. Usually the first outpatient visit is planned approximately 1 week after the operation. The postoperative swelling can be treated by lymphatic drainage that can be started a few days after the procedure.

Usually the pain (similar to muscle aches) is well-tolerated and you can return to your daily activities and work within 3-7 days postoperatively.

Fees

As with any cosmetic procedure, liposuction costs can vary widely and depend on the extend of the planned procedure, the skin quality, age and so forth. Our fees are based on the exact type and extent of the surgical procedure performed and the chosen form of anesthesia, i.e. general- or local anesthesia.

The fees are preoperatively discussed and agreed with you and can be considered as a flat rate including the surgeons and anesthesia fees, the operation room cost, compression garments and 3 sessions of lymphatic drainage and the follow-up consultations. The fees are due before surgery.

In general, most health insurances do not cover cosmetic surgery and liposuction.
