Methods of Ear Correction

Depending on your starting point and desired outcome, we offer various specialized methods of ear correction at clinic utoquai.

Auricle Correction (Otoplasty):
For protruding or asymmetrical ears, the ear cartilage is reshaped through a small incision on the back of the ear. Special stitches or minor incisions create a new fold (antihelix) and reposition the ear closer to the head.

Earlobe Correction:
Torn, stretched, or severely enlarged earlobes—whether caused by heavy earrings, gauges, or aging—can be surgically corrected. The proportions of the earlobes are restored harmoniously, making it possible to wear jewelry again.

Combined Ear Correction:
In some cases, both the auricle and earlobes are treated together to achieve a complete aesthetic harmonization of the entire ear region.

Procedure for Ear Correction

Consultation

An initial consultation provides an opportunity to discuss your desires while we analyze the individual shape of your ears. We’ll explain what is realistically possible and choose the technique that best suits your anatomy.

Preparation

To support optimal healing, it’s advisable to stop taking blood-thinning medications approximately two weeks before the procedure. The same recommendation applies to smoking, which should also be avoided before and after the surgery.

Treatment

Ear correction is generally performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. Depending on the procedure, the treatment takes about 30–90 minutes.
During auricle correction, cartilage is reshaped through a small incision at the back of the ear, resulting in naturally positioned ears.
For torn, stretched, or asymmetrical earlobes, surgical reshaping is conducted. Depending on the extent of the correction, this may involve excision and re-suturing or additional local skin repositioning (flap reconstruction). Scars are strategically placed to be barely noticeable after healing.

Aftercare

After ear pinning or correction, a headband is applied to keep the ears in position for 7–14 days. Additionally, we recommend wearing a headband for support during sleep for the next 2–3 weeks.

Tapes and sutures are removed after 10–12 days. Swimming is not advised during this time. For patients undergoing earlobe correction, we recommend waiting at least 90 days post-procedure before getting new piercings.

Cost of Ear Correction in Zurich

The cost depends on the type and scope of the procedure. Prices for earlobe correction start at 800 CHF, while ear shape corrections cost from 6,000 CHF. An individual consultation allows us to analyze your situation and provide you with a detailed cost plan.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ear Correction in Zurich

At what age can ear correction be performed?

Will there be visible scars?
No. Incisions are discreetly placed behind the ear or on the earlobe, making them barely noticeable once healed.

Is the procedure painful?
Not during the procedure, as it is performed under anesthesia. Minor tension may occur post-surgery but typically resolves quickly.

How long does healing take?
Most swelling subsides within 7–10 days. The final result is usually visible after approximately 12–16 weeks.

Can I wear earrings again after an earlobe correction?
