Thigh remodeling

Preface

Ageing also affects the thighs as well on the inner side as on the outer side. In spite of a healthy life style, nutrition and exercise the thighs becomes a problem zone with accumulation of fat depots, cellulite, and skin excess.

Treatment of these areas is notoriously difficult. The fact that the skin especially in the inner side of the thigh becomes increasingly thin with loss of elasticity leading to excess, hanging skin and consequently a loss of harmony with an old and unfit aspect of the inner thigh. After massive weight loss (by diet or after bariatric surgery) the most important deformations of these areas can be observed, that can`t be corrected without surgery.

With modern techniques of skin tightening procedures, a more harmonious result with a more youthful and tight aspect can be obtained resulting in a reconstruction of the whole body proportions. A thigh lift is an aesthetic procedure that aims to reconstruct a harmonious, youthful, fit and tight aspect of the thighs with optimal proportions to the contour of the lower body part.

Procedure

A thigh remodeling is mainly performed to remove excess skin and fat in the area of the thighs and buttocks, less frequently on the outer side of the thigh.  Depending on the extent of the planned procedure it is performed either on an outpatient basis or with short hospitalization under local or general anesthesia. Liposuction is the ideal method to contour the thigh if the skin elasticity is sufficient and there is no need to resect skin. In the case of inelastic, excess skin and fat an operation with removal of the excess skin (thigh lift) is necessary. The two techniques of liposuction and thigh lift are frequently combined (dermolipectomy) to obtain the desired result.

The amount and location of the skin incisions and the chosen technique vary individually and depend on the actual area to be treated and the amount of skin that needs to be removed.

Thigh gap

Depending on the initial situation, the goal may be to achieve a so-called “thigh gap”. However, even with tight, youthful skin on the inner thighs, this goal cannot always be achieved by liposuction alone and an additional removal of skin (thigh lift) is necessary.

Typical techniques of thigh remodeling:

  • Liposuction / Contouring of the outer side of the thigh, medial knee area
  • Medial thigh lift (inner thighs)
  • Vertical and/or horizontal Technique, Hockey Stick Incision
  • Lower Body Lift

Recovery

During the first 4-6 weeks a custom-made compression garment is worn to minimize swelling and to optimize the adaptation of the skin to the new body contour. Serious complications after thigh lifts are rare. Initially hematomas and swelling are frequent but generally resorb completely within a few days. A thigh lift leads to a significant improvement of the skin tension and contour of the thigh with a youthful aspect and feeling. The effect is immediate after the operation.

Postoperative care

The skin tonus is improved immediately after the operation, the final and optimal result after swelling and wound healing however is obtained only a few months after the operation.

Intensive work out and sports should be prevented for approximately 4 weeks. Wearing the compression garments assists the postoperative healing. Excessive leg movements and stretching should be prevented during the first 4-6 weeks in order not to compromise wound healing and scarring. The results are durable if the body weight remains stable and work out is continued.

Fees

As with any cosmetic procedure, costs for a thigh lift can vary widely and depend on the extend of the planned procedure, the skin quality, age and so forth. Our fees are based on the exact type and extent of the surgical procedure planned and the chosen form of anesthesia, i.e. general- or local anesthesia.

The fees are preoperatively discussed and agreed with you and can be considered as a flat rate including the surgeons and anesthesia fees, the operation room cost, compression garments and the follow-up consultations. The fees are due before surgery.

In general, most health insurances do not cover cosmetic surgery and thigh lifts lifts. In selected cases a demand for cost reimbursement by your health insurance can clarify this.
