Many people long for full and rounded lips that harmoniously emphasise the face and accentuate sensuality and beauty. And just as many women and men are dissatisfied with the shape of their lips, for example, because their upper or lower lip is too thin. With the right make-up technique, lips can temporarily appear to be larger or fuller. But what helps in the long term?
In aesthetic medicine, there are several ways to fulfil the desire for more lip volume without having to undergo surgery or fearing that the result could look unnatural. Below, we will introduce you to the effects and advantages of minimally invasive lip augmentation.
Medical term: lip modelling
Type of anaesthesia: local anaesthesia upon request
Duration of procedure: up to 30 minutes
Clinic stay: outpatient
Aftercare: cooling
Back to public: immediately to after two days (depending on swelling)
Back to work: immediately
Time of recovery: two days, no exercising, sauna, sunbathing
Lip modelling makes it possible to change the volume and shape of the lips in a targeted manner. Our patients are particularly keen to emphasise the heart of the lips and the delineating line between the red of the lips and the facial skin. In order to achieve natural and aesthetic results, the correct filler dosage is crucial.
In most cases, lip augmentation is performed, which leads to more fullness in the lips. However, depending on the filler and the initial condition, treatment can also be used to optimise lip contours, correct irregularities or reduce wrinkles in the mouth area.
Lip modelling is usually carried out by injecting certain degradable substances (fillers). Hyaluronic acid is most commonly used.
Alternatively, lips can also be injected with autologous fat. In lipofilling, the body’s own fat is used as a natural filler. The fat is first removed from an area of the body with sufficient fat reserves as part of a liposuction procedure. In the next step, the fat cells are processed and then injected into the lip area using a fine needle.
Lip modelling is suitable for patients who wish to change the shape or volume of their lips without having to undergo a surgical procedure. In our treatments, we focus on a natural result that matches your individual features. If the dosage and technique are right, lips can be injected in such a way that nobody recognises it as an aesthetic procedure. We take great care to never use too much filler. We also work with very high-quality substances.
The subject of lip fillers is rightly controversial, as there are many deterrent examples. If you want an aesthetically pleasing result that is as natural as possible, the utoquai clinic is the right place for you.
Each of our treatments is preceded by a detailed consultation. During this consultation, we enquire about our patients’ wishes. Then we determine the best treatment and subsequently select the perfect injection substance. We also answer your questions and explain the potential risks.
Ideally, facial treatments should not be carried out for several weeks before lip modelling. You should not take any blood thinners for about a week before your appointment. However, do not stop taking such medication without consulting your doctor. No alcohol should be consumed the day before the treatment. You should also make sure to drink enough water before the treatment. Come to your appointment without make-up.
Lip modelling using fillers usually takes a maximum of half an hour. Upon request, we will apply an anaesthetic ointment. Then we inject the filler into the lip area using fine needles. The treatment is performed on an outpatient basis so that you can leave our practice immediately afterwards.
Most of our patients are able to return to their everyday lives immediately after the treatment. Generally, there is no need to plan for any downtime. There may be slight swelling or bruising. However, these symptoms should subside after a few days. You should avoid kissing and talking too much in the first few hours after treatment.
As a general rule, we initially set the filler dosage for lip injections as low as possible. We recommend a follow-up appointment in two weeks rather than injecting too much of the substance. The duration of the effect varies and can last 6 to 12 months. The treatment can then be repeated.
The cost of lip modelling depends on the selected filler, the initial situation and the patient’s wishes. We can provide you with detailed information during a personal consultation.
In our experience, lip modelling using injections is a good and gentle treatment method for achieving more voluminous yet natural-looking lips. You can see the initial effect immediately after the injection. As already mentioned, we will slowly work with you to achieve the desired result.
Dr Duve offers two alternatives for patients who do not want injections for a variety of reasons.
LipLase® is a non-invasive treatment to plump up the lips without using injections. It aims to create fuller and softer lips by stimulating new formation and synthesis of collagen. Using specialised laser technologies facilitates deeper stimulation of collagen to achieve optimum results. The treatment does not require needles, and there is no downtime after the procedure.
The phenol peel is a deep-acting chemical peel that is particularly suitable for the treatment of deep skin wrinkles, pronounced pigmentation disorders, acne scars and sun-damaged skin. The peel can also help against lip wrinkles and contribute to fuller lips by stimulating collagen production. It penetrates deep into the skin and promotes the regeneration of elastic and collagen fibres in all layers of the skin. This can lead to a significant improvement in the appearance of the skin and produce a lifting effect that makes you look younger.
Are you bothered by the shape of your lips or are they too thin? We have a gentle treatment option for modelling your lip area. Please feel free to make an appointment with us. We will see which treatment option is right for you and answer all your questions.
There are various degradable fillers for lip modelling. In most cases, high-quality hyaluronic acid is used.
Lip augmentation is considered to be painless. Upon request, we can apply an anaesthetic ointment before injecting the filler.
Using high-quality fillers for the anti-wrinkle injection minimises the likelihood of localised filler accumulation and therefore the risk of lump formation. If, contrary to expectations, lumps do form, injected hyaluronic acid can also be dissolved again.
How long the results last depends on the selected filler and the condition of the lips. For long-lasting results, the substances usually need to be re-injected every 6 to 12 months.
The amount of filler can be fine-tuned a few days after the treatment. Conversely, if too much filler has been injected, the endogenous enzyme hyaluronidase can be introduced into the lips, causing the hyaluronic acid to dissolve within 24 to 48 hours.
